Swallows Day Parade

posted Mar 24, 2011, 12:25 PM by Chad Meisinger   [ updated Mar 24, 2011, 1:36 PM ]

We're still waiting for the actual parade position NUMBER, but I should have it by tomorrow from one of Rick's sources.  I'll forward it on once I have it so that everyone can make arrangements for the best time to have your girls dropped off.

Tee-Pee Setup at 8:30

Dads are welcome to bring their girls down to the tee-pee building at 8:30, but I'd discourage it and suggest that they have them dropped off later (exact time TBD - plan on around 10- 11 AM). ALL DADS still need to be EARLY so that we can have waivers signed and get them registered to be in the parade before the 10 AM deadline.

OH, and I need ALL Navigators to help collect $20 family to cover the patch, parade insurance and supplies. If they didn't pay online (I'll have the list $10 per person), then we'll need to collect from the on Saturday so that I can turn it into the YMCA.

The parade starts at 11:00 AM

EVERYONE WEAR YOUR VESTS! WE ARE A NATION! BE SURE YOU HAVE ALL YOUR NEW PATCHES ON!

And yes, we’ll have this event’s patches THAT DAY!

Wear comfortable Shoes. Backpack with snacks, water, camera, and sunscreen.

Reminder: We'll be setting the tee-pee's up off El Horno (you'll see us) and then moving them to the staging area (Mercado), everything is the same as last year. You can see the Parade Route attached.

See everyone Saturday 8:30 AM, at El Horno for teepee construction!

Disney Dance and Lessons! (UPDATED DATES)

Please find the flyer promoting the dance and lessons attached for download below.

We've hired a dance instructor to provide dance lessons for those that would like to join us on Friday, December 3rd at 6pm. Unless you and your daughter have taken dance lessons before - I highly recommend this. It really helps make the actual dance more special when you're both able to go out there and dance a couple steps beyond the slow dances. The Fox circle has arranged for both the lessons and a pizza dinner for the bargain price of $20 per father/daughter(s) group.

The actual dance is on Sunday, December 5th from 4:30 to 9PM. This is a memory that your daughter(s) will carry around with them for the rest of their life! How many opportunities in her life will you have to take her to a formal dance? Don't let this one slip by....

You NEED to register for this one on the YMCA website - there are no onsite registrations for this event. The price is $65 per person and it includes dinner, pictures and the dance. Please sign up today!

Top 10 Ways to Ensure a Great Program Experience

posted Nov 17, 2010, 10:25 PM by fia ceo   [ updated Nov 17, 2010, 10:38 PM ]

  1. Keep holy your meeting date. Resist the temptation to change the date because so-and-so can’t make it.
  2. Have a separate Dad’s meeting at regular intervals. Keep Tribe meetings for kids.
  3. Organize your Tribe meetings. Don’t “wing” anything.  This is primarily the Chief’s job.
  4. Have multiple leaders and one Chief! There’s lots to do.  Everyone should have “their job.” Nation Chief’s – You belong to all the Kids!
  5. Recruit people like you. Tribes should always have 12-15 enthusiastic dads.
  6. Meet in your homes. Let the child (hostess) shine!
  7. Start and Maintain Traditions. Chief’s Awards, games, uniform, etc.
  8. Belong to your Nation. Always have someone on the Nation Council attending Expedition Base Camps.
  9. Go to all Nation Events. Volunteer for skits, games, etc.
  10. Keep Enthusiasm High! Your greatest asset.
Bonus:  Remember this is a Kid’s program

Here are your Compass Checklists

Please find attached a catalog with visuals of each of the pins that your girl(s) can achieve and the appropriate checklists outlining what they have to do to achieve them. Reach out to your Circle Navigator with any questions that you might have regarding the program. In the meantime - start helping your daughter earn those pins!
